Yahweh's Song: A Handbook for Understanding Old Testament Historical Theology is a quiet and gentle revolution. It grows from a deep recognition of the problems and limitations of contemporary Biblical scholarship. It is an attempt to start over from the beginning and to build a new kind of Biblical scholarship on a stronger foundation. It is very much a "right brained" approach both to the Biblical text and to ancient Near Eastern history. Yahweh's Song applies evidence from a number of academic disciplines to the Biblical text in ways that have not been done in the past. Yahweh's Song is a handbook for understanding the relationship between the Biblical text and the culture in which it was written. It is a detailed academic study, but it is also easy to read. The book uses material from over 800 books and articles. The text includes over 2,000 extended footnotes. Yet it puts the evidence together in a way that is often completely new. Hundreds of people have told me that it is one of the most useful studies that they have seen. The purpose of the book is to expose you to new kinds of evidence, suggest new ways of looking at the Bible's historical account, understand the attacks that are being leveled at the Bible today, and learn how to defend the faith against those attacks. This book is all about having faith in the truth of Scripture but also thinking about it in new ways. This book is not currently available in printed form.
