How to Find the Truth, and How to Understand the World of Scholars and Scholarship
The world is full of people and institutions that make truth claims. Thousands of people make contradictory claims about the truth, and many claim that truth can not even be known. How can you figure out what the truth actually is? How can you tell if an author's words can be trusted? How can you evaluate schools and degrees? This section of the Evangelical Virtual Seminary web site will look at the nature of truth. It will talk about how scholars actually think and how the academic world really works. This section looks at many aspects of academic reality that few people discuss. These are the things that you only come to understand after a life time of involvement in the academic process. They are for the most part things that I wish someone had told me forty years ago. The Finding Truth link on this page talks about Christian epistemology (how do you know what you know). The Scholars and Scholarship link gives the real scoop about scholarship. How to decide if you need a degree and where you should study? The link called The Future talks about what will happen in the future based both on the biblical revelation and common sense. The Key Terms link discusses the meaning of important key terms that are used in the academic world (like what do the words conservative and liberal really mean?). |
