Educational Programs for Everyone
Becoming a Student of the Evangelical Virtual Seminary EVS is not a school in the traditional sense of the word. It is an academic community of people who want to become better equipped to serve God's kingdom. EVS does not offer a degree or academic credit for work done in the program. There are two paths for using the Evangelical Virtual Seminary. The first path is to use the Independent Study programs. The Independent Study programs are designed to provide maximum flexibility in the choice of books and topics of study. The second path is to use the Mentored Programs. These course offer a more limited selection of readings and more structured assignments. When working on one of the Structured Courses, it is important to ask a friend or pastor to mentor you in your work. Find someone whose opinion you trust. Then ask him to evaluate your work as you write it. As with all programs in EVS, these are not academic courses, and they offer no academic credit.
IS INDEPENDENT STUDY FOR YOU? A program of independent study can be ideal for some students. However, it is not for everyone. Follow the link on this page titled "Usefulness?" It is a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of a program of independent study. Look through the issues on that page. Then pray about it before deciding if a program like the Evangelical Virtual Seminary is for you.
