Expanding Biblical Skills for Pastors

The Pastor as Scholar Programs are advanced level Bible centered courses written for people who already have a MDiv from a traditional seminary. Their emphasis is on developing a pastor's skills as a biblical exegete.

The Pastor as Bible Scholar Program: Book Model - Old Testament Emphasis has as its focus the development of skills associated with Old Testament exegesis. The program requires reading books that may be found in a library. They can be purchased from book stores or from a wide number of online vendors. While Old Testament studies have often been downplayed in the modern world, Old Testament studies are the growing edge of the field. If biblical chronology is based on the assumption of an 18th Dynasty exodus date, there are an amazing number of interactions between the Bible and ancient Near Eastern cultures that have not been recognized or appreciated in the academic orbit. For a summary of these cultural connections, see Yahweh's Song in the EVS Book Store. This program can place pastors on the growth edge of the field. The program can be found at the Old Testament link on this page.

The Pastor as Bible Scholar: Book Model - New Testament Emphasis has as its focus the development of skills in New Testament exegesis. This program requires reading books that may be found in a library. They can also be or purchased from book stores or from a wide number of online vendors. While conservative New Testament studies have changed rather little in the past 50 years, thee world of conservative New Testament studies may be at the start of a major growth period. One of the most important things on the horizon is a study of the 1st century AD version of Merkabah Mysticism. This was Paul's theology before he was converted, and its implications for New Testament theology are enormous. For a study of its exegetical implications, see Yahweh's Song in the EVS Book Store. The program can be found at the New Testament link on this page.

The Pastor as Bible Scholar: Journal Research Model requires reading some books that may be found in a library. They may also be purchased from book stores or from a wide number of online vendors. This program also requires reading a number of articles from professional journals. Some of these can be found in a university or Christian college library. Most of these can be found in a seminary library. A number of them can also be accessed by purchasing the Theological Journal Library CD set either from Galaxie software or as part of a Logos package. The program can be found at the Journal Research link on this page.
